By Rob Sutter

One of the most popular holiday gifts, as any Internet marketing company will attest, are video game systems. These gaming gadgets are nothing short of popular, especially around the holidays, and you might have been lucky enough to find one under your tree as well. With that said, it's important to understand which systems sold the best over the years. Here are just a few that should expand your knowledge on the matter.

PlayStation 1 - If you were a gamer during the mid-to-late 90s, chances are that you either owned or experienced a PlayStation 1. Its library of games couldn't be denied, as it was home to such titles as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Final Fantasy VII. Furthermore, the system was equipped with the ability to play music CDs, which made it multifaceted. Before the console was discontinued, the PS1 sold more than 102 million units, which is a strong number that the likes of www.fishbat.com should recognize.

Game Boy - Including its Pocket and Color iterations, the Game Boy is not only a classic but one of the best-selling platforms in gaming history at over 118 million units sold. Despite its limited graphics and the need to use batteries to run it, the Game Boy stood the test of time. Between 1989, when it was released in North America, and 2003, when it was discontinued, it brought many classic games to the mainstream. Tetris is perhaps the most well-known title in this regard.

Nintendo DS - Not to take anything away from the Game Boy, but its total number of sales was trumped by the Nintendo DS. According to Internet marketing companies, this system with its iconic clamshell design sold more than 154 million units. While it had multiple versions as well, including the DS Lite, its library of games remained strong. For those that are interested in picking up a DS, search for such titles as Mario Kart DS and the various Pokemon titles on said platform. They will provide some of the best experiences that this system can offer.

PlayStation 2 - Topping the list at over 155 million units sold, the PlayStation 2 is one of the most important video game systems in history. Not only did it allow players to use it as a CD or DVD players, but it game with online capabilities, meaning that players could play with each other over the Internet. Once again, the PS2 was home to a number of popular games that those in the early-to-mid 2000s can recall today. Shadow of the Colossus, Okami and the Grand Theft Auto series are just some of the standouts.
